Pastors & Elders
Rick has been at Sun Valley, along with his wife (Amy) and 3 daughters, since the church's beginnings in 2003. From 2003 - 2007 he served as an associate pastor on staff. Since that time he has remained active in service as a lay elder.
His hope for Sun Valley is that we would not be satisfied with simply "playing church," but would have such an overwhelming view of the the word of God and the glory of Christ that we would passionately desire to see others come to know Him and make much of Him.
Dennis was one of the founding members of the church in 2003 when he and his wife decided to join SVC.
Dennis serves the church in the role of lay elder and regularly teaches adult Sunday Seminars.
Dennis' hope is for Sun Valley to continue to develop into an “authentic Christian community” that increasingly expresses it’s devotion to God through the Worship that is Biblically Based and informed by the wisdom of the CHURCH through the centuries.
David, his wife Heidi and his children have been at Sun Valley since 2003. David serves the church in the role of Elder. His role as an elder involves shepherding and teaching. He may teach an adult Sunday school class or lead portions of a Sunday worship service.
David's hopes for Sun Valley Church include: spreading the Good News to the Yakima Valley, praising God corporately, and remaining Christ-centered and grounded in God's Word.
Andy and his wife Kelley began attending Sun Valley Church in 2006. After faithfully serving at SVC for six years Andy became an elder. He serves in many places at SVC (small group leader coach, liturgist, and occasional teacher) and can be seen regularly leading in our Sunday morning worship service.
Both Andy and Kelley have a heart for serving others and love shepherding the people of Sun Valley Church.
John has been the lead pastor of SVC since its inception in 2003. Prior to SVC he and his wife (Sheri) served at West Side Baptist Church in Yakima. Besides preaching weekly, John occasionally teaches in our Sunday Seminars. He also oversees the office personnel and helps guide SVC ministries.
As the preaching pastor it is his desire to glorify God and bring joy to God's people by rightly dividing God's word.
Rick and his wife, Jenn, have been part of Sun Valley since 2010, and all four of their children were born into SVC. Rick is the Associate Pastor, overseeing and serving in many areas: Family Ministries, Sunday Seminars, missions and evangelism, small groups, biblical counseling, as well as preaching occasionally throughout the year.
Rick desires that Sun Valley Church would be a body of saints who are deeply rooted in God’s Word, vibrantly connected to Christ in biblical worship as individuals, families, and corporately, and joyfully ready to share the Gospel whenever they have opportunity.
Josh and his wife Heather have been members of SVC since its inception in 2003. They have three children. Josh has been a small group leader at SVC throughout the life of our church. He became an elder in December of 2019. He serves in teaching adult, student, and children's seminars.
Director of Worship & Students
Jeremy has had the privilege of growing up at Sun Valley Church and has now grown into the role of Director of Worship and Students. Jeremy's family was part of the original church planting team from Westside Church. He is married to Katie and has three children.
Jeremy oversees the music and liturgy on Sunday morning, as well as student ministries. He is also the host of the Voice of the Valley podcast. His hope is that through the worship of God we would be a changed people, committed to serving God with every breath we have. His desire is to see both the local and global church changed by the power of the Gospel.
Deb came to work for the church in February of 2004. She is the ministry assistant, book keeper, secretary. She does all the amazing work that helps keep Sun Valley Church running smoothly.
Her hope for the church is that it would be a place where people are drawn in order to grow deeper in their understanding of, and relationship with, Christ. She would hope that people are able to continually grow more in their appreciation of the incredible sacrifice that Jesus made for us and how desperate and absolute our need for a savior is.
Director of Children's Ministry
We are excited for the newest addition to the SVC staff. Mary Stowman has served SVC in a variety of ways but she is currently serving in the Children's Ministry with a particular focus on the nursery ministry.
If you have ever walked by the nursery it is a full room! Our nursery is a growing ministry and Mary takes special interest in ministering to our littlest ones and their parents.
Connections Team Director
Tyffany is married to Tim and they have three children and have been attending SVC since the beginning. Tyffany organizes everything that is involved in welcoming any and all that walk through our doors. She trains, encourages, directs, and schedules our team of people whose purpose is to make everyone feel welcome.
Marlin is a retired Washington State Patrol officer and has been at Sun Valley, along with his wife Judy, since 2005. His main responsibilities as a deacon include building maintenance and head usher.
Other than keeping the building in top shape, one of Marlin's main goals on Sundays is to make sure everyone is greeted with a healthy smile and hearty handshake before and after each service. He may even make a fish reference joke about his name when he says hello but at least you won't forget his name!
Rick has been at Sun Valley Church since 2005, shortly after it was planted in East Valley. He became a deacon at the beginning of 2012 and serves primarily in building maintenance as well as being the lead sound technician.
Rick's hope is that Sun Valley continues to be a beacon of light and truth as it stays committed to the teaching and works of Christ, as revealed in the Bible.
Steve and his wife Myrna have served the church faithfully for years. Steve became a deacon at the start of 2014 and has been an amazing addition to the team.
You will see Steve working around the church often during the week.
