THE STORY OF SUN VALLEY CHURCH
"The church of Jesus Christ is the most important institution in the world. The assembly of the redeemed, the company of the saints, the children of God are more significant in world history than any other group, organization, or nation. The United States of America compares to the church of Jesus Christ like a speck of dust compares to the sun. The drama of international relations compares to the mission of the church like a kindergarten riddle compares to Hamlet or King Lear. And all pomp of May Day in Red Square and the pageantry of New Year's in Pasadena fade into a formless grey against the splendor of the bride of Christ. Take heed how you judge. Things are not what they seem. "All flesh is like grass. And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord (and all his family) abide forever" (1 Peter 1:24, 25). The media and all the powers, and authorities, and rulers, and stars that they present are a mirage. "For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God" (Luke 16:15). The gates of Hades, the powers of death, will prevail against every institution but one, the church." - John Piper
Sun Valley Church is part of this grand picture! Here is our story...
God's faithfulness to us has been evident at every turn. Our first Sunday was March 16th, 2003. Our mother church is West Side Baptist Church of Yakima, Washington. In 2000, the elders of West Side Baptist decided it would be God-honoring and strategically important for West Side to plant a daughter church in the greater Yakima area. After much prayer and planning, East Valley was the chosen site for the church plant.
In 2001, the idea of planting a daughter church was presented to West Side Baptist Church congregation and they were asked to prayerfully consider the possibility of participating in this Kingdom adventure. In September of 2002, a small group of committed people began meeting on a monthly basis to hold separate services in the West Side Youth Center in preparation for a spring launch in 2003. Sun Valley Church's first official worship service was held on March 16, 2003, in the East Valley High School auditorium.
Sun Valley Church started with around 75 adults and has grown to over 200+ in total attendance on any given Sunday.
In July of 2010, God worked through the congregation of Gateway Fellowship moving them to give us their building! What an IMMENSE blessing! After extensive remodeling of the building, we began holding Sunday services here in March 2011. During the process of remodeling our gifted building and moving from East Valley to Union Gap, we have experienced amazing blessings, miracles, and encouragements that have confirmed God's hand in our move.
Because of God's abundant blessings we needed to add more building space, so in October of 2015 we decided to begin a large addition. In April 2017 we moved into our new Sunday School space, nursery, kitchen, and grand commons area! We are so thankful!
We continue to look to God for direction and are trusting Him for everything. We believe God has His hand on Sun Valley Church and is using us to spread the glory of Jesus Christ to Yakima, the surrounding area, and the regions beyond. Soli Deo Gloria! Please stop and pray right now for God's blessing on Sun Valley Church.
